Anambra Elections: APGA Dominates with Full Win Across All LGAs

The ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has won all contested positions in the local government council elections held on September 28, 2024 in Anambra State.

The elections took place across the state’s 21 local government councils and 326 council wards.

Mrs Genevieve Osakwe, Chairperson of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), announced the results late on Sunday night at the Commission’s office in Awka.

She confirmed that APGA secured all 21 chairmanship seats as well as every councillorship position in the local government areas.

Osakwe emphasised that the election process was transparent, free, fair, and credible.

“This is to affirm the result of the chairmanship and councillorship election held on Sept. 28. The Commission carefully collated and analysed the results to ensure that there were no mistakes.

“All the scores and the parties were announced at the polling units yesterday, we are here today to affirm the results as recorded.

“Elections were held at all the polling units across Anambra on Saturday, and it was free, fair and credible,” she said.

Osakwe expressed gratitude to the people of Anambra for their large turnout at the polls and thanked the security agencies for ensuring a peaceful and orderly election process.

Among the newly elected chairpersons, only one female candidate, Mrs Amaka Obi, was successful, clinching the chairmanship of Idemili South Local Government Area.

Other elected chairmen include Dr Chibueze Ofobuike (Aguata), Mr Ifeanyi Chiweze (Anambra East), and Mr Fidelis Nnazo (Anambra West).
