Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has issued a strong warning to roadside preachers using loudspeakers in public spaces, especially markets, accusing them of creating noise pollution and disturbing residents. Soludo made it clear that violators of the noise pollution regulations would face a fine of ₦500,000.

A viral video shows the governor confronting an unidentified preacher at a market, advising him to either preach in a church or rent an open field. Soludo emphasised that those interested in listening to the preacher would be able to find him there.

Anambra Governor Reportedly Impose ₦500,000 Fine for Loud Preaching in Markets.

Addressing traders at Ochanja Market in Onitsha, Soludo reiterated, “If you want to preach the word of God, go to your church. You are causing noise pollution here. You cannot come to a marketplace and disturb everyone.” He added, “This is a marketplace, not a church. You are violating the law. You cannot take over a public space and turn it into a church. Otherwise, you will be charged for using this space.”

The governor also highlighted the ban on loudspeakers in markets due to the harmful effects of noise pollution on people’s health, especially their eardrums. He further stated, “We are cracking down on fake pastors and prophets in Anambra.”
