The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has launched a manhunt for armed men in a red Highlander jeep who kidnapped a woman in Nnewi on Monday.
The kidnappers were pursued to Nnobi, where they engaged in a gun battle with security operatives.
During the shootout, a security operative was killed, and stray bullets hit two passers-by.
According to Police Spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the police recovered the victims’ bodies and took them to the hospital. He said three people, including a 22-year-old woman, were pronounced dead, and two others are being treated.
The Police Commissioner condemned the killers, offered condolences to the victims’ families, and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice.
He urged the public to provide information to assist the police in their ongoing operation.
