Angola have pulled out of the 2019 COSAFA Cup, citing the need to complete their 2018/2019 league season and for the proper preparation for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
The tournament is due to start in Durban this weekend and the organizers are in a tight spot and despite conversations far and wide across the continent for a replacement, there will be no new participants.
Angola’s withdrawal means that this year’s Group A will contain only three teams – eSwatini, Mauritius and Comoros Islands.
The change means eSwatini and Mauritius will kick start the tournament at the King Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday.
This will not be the first time Angola will miss the COSAFA Cup. The first was in 1997 and the next was in 2015.
