Another dam wall has collapsed in the disaster-stricken town of Jagersfontein in the Free State, the Free State government confirmed on Tuesday night.
“Provincial government is still trying to establish the extent of the water flow. However, it is understood that the water is running through the neighbourhood of Charlesville and the nearby Dennis Louw farm,” said Palesa Chubisi, spokesperson for Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela.
R706 is closed to traffic and motorists are advised to use alternative roads, Chubisi said.
“The police and the emergency services are on the scene. Premier Ntombela has called for the community not to panic as the provincial disaster team has been activated to the affected area,” Chubisi said.
This situation is coming weeks after a dam wall collapsed at the same mine, resulting in the death of at least one person, while hundreds of households were displaced.
