South African Premier Soccer League side Free State Stars have announced the death of midfielder Sinethemba Jantjie after a car accident in Bethlehem on Monday morning.
The 30-year-old’s vehicle was involved in a collision‚ though details around the incident remain sketchy.
Free State Stars confirmed the news on their official website saying “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Free State Stars midfielder Sinethemba Jantjie. Mr. Jantjie passed away in the early hours of the morning when his car was involved in an accident.”
“The club plans to meet with Jantjie’s family, after which they will give further details of the funeral and memorial arrangements. Jantjie was a late bloomer in the PSL, making his debut in his late 20s in 2016/17. He was a regular starter for Stars and his good form caught the eye of Gavin Hunt at Bidvest Wits who had signed him on a pre-contract for next season,” confirmed Ea Lla Koto.
Jantjie‚ who becomes the latest in a sadly growing list of road fatalities among Premier Soccer League players‚ was due to join BidVest Wits at the end of the season after signing a pre-contract with the Johannesburg-based club. He joins the likes of Lesley Manyathela‚ Gift Leremi‚ Richard Henyekane‚ Cecil Lolo‚ Mondli Cele and Mlondi Dlamini to have died in car accidents.
