Nigerian-born British boxer, Anthony Joshua has vowed to turn things around after his shocking loss to Mexico’s Andy Ruiz Jr.
In front of a sellout crowd at Madison Square Garden at New York City, Joshua lost his WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO heavyweight titles to Ruiz Jr after the referee waved the contest off after seven rounds.
Joshua was knocked down four times during the contest but has insisted he is ready to go again.
“I didn’t even ask about a rematch clause because I was so confident I was going to win. If it’s there, we’ll go again and I’ll get the titles back. I’m going to beat him up. I’m not dwelling on it. You just correct it, you adjust, you sit down, you focus and you go again.”
However, if the rematch takes place, all four belts might not be up for grabs as the IBF, could call on Ruiz Jr to defend their belt against mandatory challenger, Kubrat Pulev.
If the Mexican-American declined the mandatory challenge in favour of another big-money showdown with Joshua, he would be stripped of the title.
