Former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Adewole Adebayo, addressed the speculation surrounding Nasir El-Rufai’s political intentions and the broader dynamics within the party, saying any presidential hopeful must get past him to realise their ambition.
However, speaking on Breakfast Central on Tuesday, Adebayo confirmed that discussions with El-Rufai have not revolved around a presidential bid, adding that the former Kaduna governor, known for his forthrightness, would be transparent about any such ambitions.
“If he’s coming to run, he will tell you. If he’s not running, he will tell you.”

Acknowledging that political aspirations can change, he reaffirmed his stance on leadership competition within the party. Still, he stressed the democratic nature of the SDP, saying that anyone seeking leadership must compete fairly.
“So anybody who wants to be president or the basis of other people not wanting to be president, he’s not a serious person,”.
“Come to SDP, we’ll give you a fair chance. If you come in, and the SDP people believe that you will give us a better chance, let’s see it.” reiterating the party’s openness to potential candidates.
