APC Claims All Local Government Seats in Benue

The Chairman of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), Richard Tombowua, has announced that the All Progressives Congress (APC) won all chairmanship and councillorship positions in the local government elections held on Saturday.

Speaking at the BSIEC headquarters on Sunday, Tombowua stated that the elections across the state were peaceful, free, and fair, with results confirming APC’s victory in all 23 local government chairmanship seats and 276 councillorship positions.

“The election held yesterday across the state went off without a hitch; it was free and fair, and the returning officers have submitted all the results from the field. From the results, the All Progressives Congress won all 23 chairmanship and 276 councillorship positions,” he said.

Tombowua further explained that out of the eight political parties that submitted candidates, five participated in the elections. These included the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

In response to the outcome, Ibrahim Idoko, the state chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) and a representative of the Labour Party, praised the electoral body for conducting a peaceful and organised election.

Idoko also thanked Governor Hyacinth Alia for providing a fair and level playing field for all parties. Idoko noted that his party would review the results and give its formal response at a later time.
