Following the drama that trailed the primary of the Edo State governorship election, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared it inconclusive.

This was disclosed in a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the Party, Felix Morka, on Tuesday night.

The party said a fresh primary will be conducted on Thursday, February 21 to elect a flagbearer for the state’s election scheduled for September.

“At its emergency meeting held today, Tuesday, February 20, 2024, to consider the report on the Edo State Governorship Primary Election, the National Working Committee (NWC) deliberated on the report and resolved that the Edo State Governorship Primary Election has not been completed, and has now fixed Thursday, February 22, 2024, for the completion of the Primary Election Process,” Morka said.

Tuesday night saw an emergency meeting by the National Working Committee to ease the tensions and crisis from the Saturday election.

The Edo guber primary was conducted by a committee chaired by Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma.

After the party election was concluded, the chairman declared Dennis Idahosa as the winner but two other candidates, Monday Okpebholo and Anamero Dekeri, claimed the ticket of the party.

The Chief State Electoral Officer and Returning Officer, Stanley Ugboaja, had declared Monday Okpebholo winner of the Edo guber primary.
