Following the return of Nigeria’s president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, several of the candidates vying for the role of Senate President and other important positions in the yet-to-be-inaugurated 10th National Assembly have increased lobbying.

After spending roughly a month in Paris, where he was said to be resting, Tinubu came back to Nigeria on Monday.

However, on Tuesday, Tinubu received visits from some of the leading Senate President candidates, including Senators Godswill Akpabio and Jibrin Barau.

There were few specifics about the meetings as at the time of this report, but it is believed that Senator Abdulahi Adamu, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, attended.

Governors of the states of Ogun and Ekiti, as well as Senators Olamilekan Adeola, Opeyemi Bamidele, Emmanuel Bwacha, Tokunbo Abiru, and Hon. James Faleke, were present as well.

Adamu had been absent from the country for almost two weeks but returned on Tuesday to the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, from where he traveled to Tinubu’s home in Asokoro for the meeting.

It was gathered that the meeting was part of a lobbying campaign by some candidates vying for different places in the 10th National Assembly and part of efforts to develop a zoning formula appropriate for the 10th Assembly positions.

After the meeting, Akpabio boasted of his track record with reporters and said that it would secure him the job of Senate President of the 10th Assembly.
