The All Progressives Congress (APC) has praised former President Muhammadu Buhari for reaffirming his loyalty to the party.
The commendation comes after media reports indicated that former Kaduna Governor Malam Nasir El-Rufai claimed he had received Buhari’s approval before his defection from the APC to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
El-Rufai, in an interview with BBC Hausa, revealed that he had consulted Buhari before making the decision, stating, “I left the APC with his (Buhari) full knowledge. I visited him on a Friday and informed him of my decision to leave the party because I consult with him on all my matters.”

However, Buhari, through his media aide Malam Garba Shehu, on Sunday, March 16, 2025, clarified that he remained committed to the APC and would never abandon the party.
In response to the reports, APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka praised Buhari’s firm stance, encouraging party members to follow his example.
Morka emphasised that Buhari’s clarification showed his dedication to the APC and reinforced his legacy of integrity as an elder statesman.
Shehu added that the former president’s loyalty to the party, which helped elect him twice, had once again highlighted his dignified political stature.
