APM Terminals Apapa Acquires 4 Rubber Tyred Gantry Cranes

Nigeria’s leading container terminal, APM Terminals Apapa has acquired four additional Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes in line with its equipment fleet renewal and expansion programme.

The Company’s Chief Operating Officer, Steen Knudsen said, while taking delivery of the four RTG cranes, that it will boost its operations and deepen investment at the Lagos Ports complex.

The recent acquisition brings its total investment in the last 15 years to about N168 billion. Knudsen said the new cranes were acquired as part of an ongoing investment of $80 million for the year 2020-2021.

The firm this year will have 30 RTGs in operation, 13 Mobile Harbour Cranes (MHCs), in addition to several reach stackers, forklifts, empty handlers and specialised terminal trucks; making it the best-equipped port terminal in Nigeria.

The new cranes have lifting capacity of 41 tons and are expected to improve services to the entire port community.
