The deputy vice-chancellor of Abia State University Uturu, Prof. Godwin Emezue has been kidnapped by armed men in a Lexus SUV.
Confirming the incident, the university registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu said following the alert by security officials, the police had commenced a rescue mission.
The armed men abducted Professor Emezue in the company of his wife on Friday by 7pm at a filling station in Amachara, Umuahia south local government area of Abia state, southeast of Nigeria. They were whisked off and headed towards Imo and Abia border axis. His wife was later spared, but her ATM card was held by the kidnappers.
The state Police public relations officer, ASP Maureen Chinaka is yet to respond to enquiries.
