After securing a convincing 2-0 victory over Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday, Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka expressed confidence that his team can finally end their 21-year wait for a Premier League title this season.
The Gunners finished as runners-up in the 2022-23 campaign, narrowly missing out on the title race, which was decided on the final day as they ended up behind Manchester City.
Currently sitting third in the league standings, Arsenal’s impressive win over PSG has bolstered their title ambitions, with goals from Kai Havertz and Saka himself highlighting their potential.
“I don’t want to put too much pressure on us, but I do think that this is the year (we can win the title),” Saka told CBS Sports. “I think we’ve been close the last two years and we’re getting closer but this hopefully will be the year.”
The 23-year-old, who was Arsenal’s top scorer in the Premier League last season, admitted that the club’s near misses have ignited his desire for success. “Previous years, I’ve come runners-up a lot. It’s just that spirit in me that I want to win this season and of course, I believe in myself a lot,” he added during an interview with Amazon Prime.
Arsenal’s next challenge comes on Saturday as they host 19th-placed Southampton in the Premier League.
