Arsenal is said to be interested in Benfica striker Darwin Nunez to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who has left the club. After the Gabonese international joined Barcelona and Alexandre Lacazette failed to agree on a new contract, the Gunners are likely to focus their attack with fresh acquisitions.
Arsenal has reportedly shifted their focus from Aubameyang to Nunez, who is proving to be a promising player in the Portuguese Primera Liga.
The 22-year-old has had a fantastic season, having scored 26 goals in 33 appearances in all competitions this season.
He has been a member of the Uruguay national team for two years and has been likened to compatriot Edinson Cavani.
Nunez has also been connected with Newcastle United and West Ham United in the Premier League, but if all criteria are taken into account, it will be tough for the Uruguayan to turn down a move to North London.
Arsenal is on track to qualify for the Champions League, and after offloading Aubameyang’s enormous £250,000-a-week contract, they are likely to tempt Nunez with a reasonable wage.
