Popular Afrobeats singer, Ahmed Ololade, better known as Asake, won the award of the Best African Artist of the Year at the 2024 MOBO Awards held in Sheffield, United Kingdom, on Wednesday, February 7.
The ‘Lonely at the top’ crooner won the gong ahead of superstars including Ayra Starr, Adekunle Gold, Davido, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Rema and Grammy-winning South African singer, Tyla.
Asake was not the only Nigerian to win at the 2024 MOBO Awards; Afro-gospel singer Limoblaze won best gospel artist.
Asake and Limoblaze now join Burna Boy, D’Banj, 2Baba, Wizkid, and Davido on the list of Nigerians who have won at the MOBO Awards.
In the meantime, British-Nigerian rapper, Tunde won the Best New Artist award.
British rapper, Central Cee topped the winners’ chart with two awards: Best Male Act and Song of the Year for ‘Sprinter’ with British-Nigerian rapper, Dave.
Drake and 21 Savage were the joint winners of the Best International Act award while Soul II Soul was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
