At Least 100 Killed After RSF Attack on Sudanese Village

RSF Commander Hemedti Unveils Ambitious Plan to Cease Hostilities in Sudan

At least a hundred people have been killed and many more injured following an attack on Wad al-Noura in Gezira State by Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Wednesday, regional officials say.

Darfur Governor Mini Arko Minawi disclosed that women, children and the elderly were among the victims of the attack.

It is the latest in the ongoing violence between RSF fighters and the country’s regular army over the past 14 months. Reports say RSF fighters deployed heavy artillery in Wednesday morning’s assault.

Sudan’s army said on Thursday that it will deliver a “harsh response” to the attack.

Wednesday’s attack coincided with recent United Nations warnings that Sudan is faced with the “looming threat of famine” as violence intensifies.

According to The Associated Press, RSF forces issued statements on Wednesday taking responsibility for the attack. It said it carried out the raid because Sudan’s military had planned to attack its troops in Jabal al-Awliya.

Over 14,000 people have been killed, thousands have been wounded, and hundreds of thousands have been displaced since the fighting began in April 2023.
