Atalanta’s pursuit of their first Serie A title faltered once more with a goalless draw against Cagliari on Saturday, leaving them four points behind leaders Napoli, who were set to face Lazio later in the day.
The match in Bergamo was a lacklustre affair with few clear chances, as third-placed Atalanta struggled to break down a resilient Cagliari side sitting 13th in the standings.
Despite having injuries, including the absence of key attacker Ademola Lookman, Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini made several changes to his lineup, resting important players such as Marten de Roon, Ederson, and Charles De Ketelaere ahead of their Champions League play-off against Club Brugge.

The hosts’ best chance came when Marco Brescianini’s close-range goal was ruled out for a foul on Cagliari goalkeeper Elia Caprile by Stefan Posch.
Caprile was also called into action to deny young striker Vanja Vlahovic, who replaced Mateo Retegui just before the disallowed goal.
With Napoli facing a tough clash with Lazio and Inter Milan’s match against Juventus on Sunday, the pressure is on Atalanta to bounce back in their quest for the title.
