Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Senegal’s Sadio Mane led the African charge in the English Premier League with big goals for their teams.

Aubameyang scored a second half penalty for Arsenal in a 2-0 win over Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium to push the Gunners into fourth spot.

The Gabon striker missed a penalty last weekend in the North London derby but made amends with a well taken spot kick against the Red Devils.

Aubameyang said after the game: “I made a mistake against Tottenham and I missed it, but today I was focused and scored a penalty.

“You have to practice this all the time and I did. I knew it would be tough, but I was really confident.

“The spirit of the team was good. We have everything in our hands and we know it will be tough to finish in the top four, but we are confident – it was important to win this game today and we have chances.

“We have a good spirit and we are hungry – we want to come back into the Champions League.”

Elsewhere, Sadio Mane kept Liverpool within one point of Premier League leaders Manchester City after hitting a brace in 4-2 win over Burnley and Anfield.

The Senegalese has now become the 56th player to score 50 goals for Liverpool with his brace and joins Egypt’s Mohamed Salah in the elite list of players to have reached the goals milestone
