Arsenal and Gabon captain, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang put his recent struggles behind him to deliver his first Premier League hat-trick for the Gunners as they ran riot against hapless Leeds United.
Aubameyang, who has had to deal with family issues and a consequent dip in form in recent times started in his more favoured central role in the game. leading the line for Arsenal in a very attacking set-up inspired Arsenal fans.
The Gunners were quick to come out of the blocks as Aubameyang scored a well-taken goal after swivelling past his marker before beating goalkeeper Illan Meslier to his right corner.
Meslier was culpable for technical overzealousness for the second as he failed to clear his lines despite having enough time on the ball. His error led to a gift to Saka before the goalkeeper hacked the winger down, leading to a penalty for Arsenal. Aubameyang stepped up to convert the spot-kick before adding his third of the game minutes after the break.
The Gabonese attacker has had to deal with a torrid season which has seen him struggle to live up to the quality he’s known for.
In his post-match reaction, he thanked the Gunners faithful for sticking with him through his family struggles, adding that he hopes to score more and play with a smile on his face.
The hat-trick against Leeds is the second of Aubameyang’s Arsenal career and his first in the Premier League.
