At least nine people have died and many gone missing on Saturday after Tropical Cyclone Eloise hit Mozambique bringing rain and powerful winds of around 130 kilometers per hour. Now identified as a category 2 tropical cyclone, most of Eloise’s victims died in the worst-hit port city of Beira, most of them killed by collapsing buildings and falling trees. A Netcare emergency rescue helicopter has crashed in KwaZulu-Natal (KNZ), killing all five people – a pilot and four healthcare workers onboard on Thursday. Netcare spokesperson Martina Nicholson said the helicopter was coming from Gauteng to fetch a patient in KwaZulu-Natal when the incident occurred around 3 pm. Tropical storm Eloise made a landfall on Tuesday across the North-East of Madagascar bringing gusty winds & heavy rain. Eloise has weakened but is forecast to escalate as it exits the west coast and heads into the Mozambique Channel towards Southern Mozambique later this week.
