The first democratic elections were held in South Africa on April 27, 1994, with blacks who make up three quarters of the population voting for the first time; bringing to an end, the apartheid regime.

Since the dawn of democracy in 1994, South African society has been decolonising slowly. On the positive side, South Africans remain enthusiastic about overcoming racial divisions and promoting social and national unity.
