Richard M. Mills Jr.
Richard M. Mills, Jr. was confirmed to be Ambassador of the United States of America to the Federal Republic of Nigeria on May 2, 2024.
Ambassador Mills, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Minister-Counselor, most recently serviced as Deputy Representative of the United States of America to the United Nations. He previously served as Chargé d’Affaires, ad interim, of the U.S. Embassy to Canada, as U.S. Ambassador to Armenia (2015-2018), Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Beirut, Lebanon (2012-2014), and as Deputy Chief of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires, ad interim, of the U.S. Embassy to Malta (2010-2012).
Ambassador Mills, who joined the U.S. Foreign Service in 1988, has also served as the Senior Democracy Advisor at U.S. Embassy Baghdad, Political Counselor at U.S. Embassy London, and as the Attache for Energy Issues at U.S. Embassy Riyadh, among other assignments.
