2022 box office smash hit film, Avatar: The way of water has just hit a new record, knocking out Jurassic world as the the seventh-highest grossing movie of all time.
After only four weeks of release, the James Cameron blockbuster sequel has generated $517 million in North America and $1.19 billion overseas. At the international box office, it’s now the fifth-highest movie, behind only “Avatar,” “Avengers: Endgame,” “Titanic” and “Avengers: Infinity War.”
Based on its worldwide ticket sales, Avatar 2 also stands as the highest-grossing movie released in 2022, as well as the second-biggest movie of the pandemic era, following 2021’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home” ($1.91 billion)
After 13 years since the release of the first movie, and over 3 weeks since the sequel, The famous filmmaker has revealed in a recent interview that the movie’s success may force him to work on another Avatar film in the next seven years.
“I’m sure that we’ll have a discussion soon with the top folks at Disney about the game plan going forward for Avatar 3, which is already in the can – we’ve already captured and photographed the whole film so we’re in extended post-production to do all that CG magic. And then Avatar 4 and 5 are both written. We even have some of 4 in the can. We’ve begun a franchise at this point.” He said.
