AWC 2022: African Women Converge in Banjul

African women from all walks of life converged in Banjul, the Gambian capital to deliberate on a spectrum of topics around women empowerment, governance and policy development frameworks.

The Africa Women Conference(AWC) is an annual international event which brings together great women leaders and gender advocates for the common good of all.

The AWC intends to create a
platform to foster collaborations and productive dialogues among women from all sectors of the African economy, by extension the Girl-child, and to other vulnerable young people.

In attendance were H.E. Ambassador Mohammed Manu,
High Commissioner of Nigeria to the Republic of Gambia; H.E. Mrs. Fatoumatta Bah Barrow,the First Lady of the Republic of The Gambia, Dr. Ramatu Tijani Aliyu
Honourable Minister of State Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria; Hajia Hadiza Mohammed Kabir
Mandate Secretary, FCT Social Development Secretariat, Nigeria, Mrs Jumai Ahmadu,
the President and Co-Convener, of the AWC, diplomats and other members of civil society groups.

The AWC-Next is expected tp be convened under the same framework but
specifically for younger women especially female students, youth leaders and
emerging female professionals in Africa.

According to the AWC-next chairperson, Blessing Gogo Ugbem, “AWC-Next may position to be AWC’s best
kept secret for sustainability, growth and impact typical of young people
operating under strict guidance of our mothers.”

This year’s edition was declared open on Wednesday, October 25, 2022 and wrapped up on Friday, October 28, 2022.

Themed “Accelerating Women’s Economic Empowerment and Inclusion Through Media, ICT and Entertainment Industries,” it signposted deliberatios, ideas and strategies to push through relevant channels across the continent and beyond for better impact on women and girls.
