This landmark achievement happened on June 4, 2024. Ayra Starr now holds the title of the African artist with the highest number of monthly listeners on Spotify, surpassing Tyla.

At the time of this article, Ayra Starr has 31,406,881 monthly listeners on Spotify, while Tyla had 31,223,494.

This accomplishment puts Ayra Starr in the company of other Nigerian superstars like Wizkid, Ckay, Burna Boy, Tems, and Rema, who previously held the record for the most Spotify monthly listeners among African artists.

In 2021, CKay’s hit single ‘Love Nwantiti’ helped him reach 30 million monthly listeners, setting a record for African artists at that time. Similarly, in 2023, Rema reached 34 million monthly listeners with his song ‘Calm Down’, becoming the African artist with the most Spotify monthly listeners.

Her recent achievement can be attributed to the success of her second album, ‘The Year I Turned 21’. The album, which features guest appearances from Seyi Vibez, Asake, Giveon, Coco Jones, Aniita, and Milar, has received critical acclaim and set a new record for the most opening day Spotify streams for an album by a Nigerian female artist.

This milestone underscores Ayra Starr’s standing as one of the Africa’s top music stars.
