Reports indicate that a one-month-old baby boy has died in Tanzania after being snatched from his mother by a monkey which had gone into their house.
A troop of Monkeys infiltrated the home of the victim’s parent in Mwamgongo village in Kigoma, near the Gombe Nation Park in western Tanzania, and snatched the toddler who was being breastfed by his mother.
As of the time of filing this report, it has not been ascertained what species of monkey attacked the mother.
The child perished when villagers attempted to rescue the infant by using force against the monkey, according to Kigoma Regional Commander James Manyama.
The baby was hurt in the head and neck, according to Manyama, and eventually died while undergoing treatment. The police have urged citizens to continue to be vigilant.
Manyama said: “She screamed for help and villagers rushed to her house to assist her in getting her child identified as Luhaiba Said – back from the troop of monkeys.
“When they tried to take him back by force he got injured on the head and the neck.
“It should be noted that Mwamgongo village shares a border with Gombe National Park.
‘Incidents of animals invading villages are not uncommon.”
