News Central have gathered that bandits have abducted the District Head of Rini and two others in Bakura LGA, Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria.

The attack occurred on Saturday June 25, 2022 at about 2pm.

Sources disclose that the assailants stormed the village with heavy ammunition, shooting sporadically, killing at least two persons before whisking the district head away.

This is coming at a time when the Zamfara State Government advised individuals to obtain guns and defend themselves in the height of the resurgence of insecurity in the state.

Governor of Zamfara State Bello Matawalle

The state government, in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Ibrahim Dosara, said:” the government has henceforth, directed individuals to prepare and obtain guns to defend themselves against the bandits.

“Government has directed the state Commissioner of police to issue licence to all those who qualify and are wishing to obtain such guns to defend themselves.

“Government is ready to facilitate for people, especially our farmers, to secure basic weapons for defending themselves.

“Government has already concluded arrangements to distribute 500 forms to each of the 19 Emirates in the state for those willing to obtain guns to defend themselves,” Dosara said.

He clarified that the government order came after a rise in bandit activity in various regions of the state.

However, the commissioner emphasized the state’s commitment to providing adequate security and protection for citizens’ lives and property, particularly during the rainy season.

Dosara claimed that the administration has made a decision to cope with the recent uptick in attacks, kidnappings, and the imposition of criminal levies on defenseless populations.

It should be recalled that on June 1, News Central reported that dozens of local vigilantes were killed by bandits in Zamfara state after rustling cattle and abducted many.

The assailants ruslted some cattle in Gidan Dan Inna and villages around the town of Auki in the Bungundu LGA of Zamfara before the vigilantes pursued them

Recall that in January, the Nigerian military launched air strikes on bandit groups in an attempt to eradicate the gangs.
