In the early hours of Sunday, kidnappers stormed a hostel situated in Sabon-Gida, a community across from the main campus of a university in north-western Nigeria. The perpetrators succeeded in locking up security guards and kidnapping two female students, Maryam and Zainab, who were identified as Microbiology Department students.
Mohammed Shehu, the spokesperson for the command, confirmed the incident in a telephone conversation. He stated that the bandits invaded a rented female hostel located in Sabon Gida village, Bungudu Local Government Area.
During the raid, the two civilian guards were locked up, and the kidnappers dispossessed them of their handsets before taking the victims away to an unknown destination. The police tactical team received the report and promptly moved to the scene, but the kidnappers had already fled with the hostages.
“The Commissioner of Police has further deployed reinforcement to complement the ongoing rescue operation to rescue the hostages hale and hearty, arrest the perpetrators and charge them to court for prosecution,” said the police spokesperson.
