Bandits Kill 19 in Northern Kaduna, Nigeria

Bandits have killed 19 people in two separate attacks in Nigeria’s northwestern Kaduna State, a government official announced on Sunday.

The state’s Commissioner for internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, reported that the incident happened in Birnin Gwari and Kajuru Local Government areas.

Aruwan said 14 people died in the first incident at Kutemeshi village in Birnin Gwari LGA while 5 others were killed in Kujeni village in Kajuru on the same day.

Several others were left with bullet wounds, the commissioner added.

The bandits – he said – looted shops; burnt a church, several houses, storehouses and warehouses.

Attacks in Kaduna are not knew. In July 2020, at least 24 people were killed and several others injured after gunmen attacked three communities in Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna.

The criminals, suspected to be Fulani militia, first attacked Chibob village and killed nine people while similar attacks were carried out by the gunmen in Sabon Kaura village where 15 people were also murdered in the night.

In October 2020, suspected bandits killed nine people in Kadai village in Fatika district of Kaduna’s Giwa Local Government Area, hours after they had killed six people including a seven-year-old boy in nearby Kidandan village.

Kidandan and Kadai are about three kilometres apart and both are under Fatika district in Giwa LGA.

In January 2021, gunmen attacked a Fulani settlement at Na’ikko village in Giwa Council leaving no fewer than 12 dead and many houses razed.

The bandits reportedly stormed the village and started shooting sporadically.
