Three civilians and five mobile policemen have been slain by bandits in the Gatikawa hamlet of Katsina State’s Kankara Local Government Area, Northwest Nigeria.

The mobile policemen were reportedly in Kano on a particular assignment.

According to sources, the event happened on Wednesday at around 5:30 pm when around 300 gunmen attacked the neighborhood and began firing to frighten the locals.

Numerous locals, he claimed, had also suffered injuries, particularly when attempting to flee the assailants.

He claimed that after the attack, the neighborhood was uneasy, and several inhabitants had since moved to nearby areas out of concern for further attacks. This is the second time this month that bandits have killed police officers.

On July 5, gunmen assassinated Assistant Commissioner of Police Aminu Umar, a senior police officer in command of the Dutsinma Council Area, along with another police officer and a number of civilians.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Idrisu Dabban Dauda, has presented cheques of N14.6m to families and next of kin of deceased police officers who died while in active service, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Alkali Baba Usman.

In a similar incident in Nigeria’s Northcentral, Both Musa Mohammed, a veterinarian with the local government’s Department of Veterinary Medicine, and Alhaji Usman Abdullahi Malami, the director of personnel management (DPM) in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State, have reportedly been abducted.

The veterinary doctor was reportedly abducted on Thursday morning when he was coming to Kontagora from nearby villages where he had gone to vaccinate animals. The DPM was seized on Friday on his property along the Kontagora-Mariga Road alongside some laborers working with him.
