A gang of armed bandits have killed an Assistant Commissioner of Police ACP, Aminu Umar Dayi, in charge of Dutsinma Area Command in Katsina, NorthWest Nigeria following a fierce gun battle.
News Central gathered that the incident occurred on Tuesday July 5, 2022 at about 11.30pm.
The assailants, numbering over 300, on motorcycles, shooting sporadically with AK 47 rifles and General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), ambushed the Dayi and one other officer whose identity was revealed.
It is important to note that the late ACP led the fight against bandits on multiple occasions, which resulted in the killing of several terrorists and their capture.
This is coming barely two weeks after bandits abducted the District Head of Rini and two others in Bakura LGA, Zamfara State, Northwest Nigeria.
The assailants stormed the village with heavy ammunition, shooting sporadically, killing at least two persons before whisking the district head away.
This is coming at a time when the Zamfara State Government advised individuals to obtain guns and defend themselves in the height of the resurgence of insecurity in the state.
The state government, in a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Ibrahim Dosara, said:” the government has henceforth, directed individuals to prepare and obtain guns to defend themselves against the bandits.
It should be recalled that on June 1, News Central reported that dozens of local vigilantes were killed by bandits in Zamfara state after rustling cattle and abducted many.
The assailants ruslted some cattle in Gidan Dan Inna and villages around the town of Auki in the Bungundu LGA of Zamfara before the vigilantes pursued them
Recall that in January, the Nigerian military launched air strikes on bandit groups in an attempt to eradicate the gangs.
