Barcelona defeated Athletic Bilbao 2-0 in their Spanish Super Cup semi-final on Wednesday, with young stars Gavi and Lamine Yamal scoring the goals. Despite being without Dani Olmo, whose playing licence was revoked before the match, Barcelona advanced to the final in Saudi Arabia.
Gavi put Barcelona ahead in the 17th minute, capitalising on a cutback from Alejandro Balde, and Yamal added a second early in the second half with a composed finish.
Barcelona’s performance was marked by their solid play despite facing a physically tough Bilbao side.
Barcelona coach Hansi Flick expressed his satisfaction with the decision to allow Olmo and Pau Victor to play again after their temporary suspension, though they could not feature in this match. Barcelona will now await the winner of Real Madrid vs Mallorca for Sunday’s final, where Olmo will be eligible to play.
