The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old businessman, Alhaji Nuru Isah, for allegedly beating his 24-year-old wife, Wasila Abdullahi, to death with a cane.
The tragic incident occurred near Government Girls College, Fadamam, Mada Area, Bauchi.
In a statement on Sunday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Wakil, confirmed the arrest, stating:
“On March 1, 2025, at about 11:30 PM, the Bauchi State Police Command was alerted to an alleged culpable homicide incident near Government Girls College, Fadamam, Mada Area, Bauchi.”
Wakil explained that the altercation stemmed from a disagreement between Isah and his second wife over the handling of food ingredients and fruits meant for breaking the Ramadan fast. The dispute escalated into violence, leading to the fatal beating.
“This unfortunate event arose from a misunderstanding between one Alhaji Nuru Isah, aged 50, a businessman at Central Market Bauchi, and his second wife, Wasila Abdullahi, aged 24, concerning the handling of food ingredients and fruits designated for breaking the Ramadan fast, which escalated into a violent confrontation.”
After the assault, Wasila collapsed and was rushed to ATBU Teaching Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
The police have launched a thorough investigation, and the suspect remains in detention.
Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Muhammad, assured the public that the case will be handled with utmost diligence, stating that ensuring justice remains a top priority for the command.
