The captain and goalkeeper for Bayern Munich, Manuel Neuer, has had a setback in his recuperation from a calf injury, the German team announced on Saturday.
Neuer has been out since ripping his calf muscle celebrating a goal in Bayern’s Champions League last-16 first-leg victory against Bayer Leverkusen in early March.
Although he had resumed ball training in recent days, the 38-year-old re-injured the muscle this past weekend.
Neuer will have to miss training “in the coming days” due to “a reaction in the calf muscle,” according to Bayern.

German tabloid Bild said on Saturday that Neuer was doubtful for Bayern’s Champions League quarterfinal matchup with Inter Milan and will miss the team’s forthcoming Bundesliga matches against St Pauli and Augsburg.
In April, Bayern will host Borussia Dortmund and then play the Italian champions both at home and away.
Jonas Urbig, 21, Neuer’s backup, injured his foot and was unable to play for Germany’s U21s during the international break.
Daniel Peretz, the Israel national custodian, and Sven Ulreich are also available for the Bavarian giants.
Bayern have eight league games left in the season, six points ahead of Leverkusen in second place.
