PSG Feminine player, Jordyn Huitema posted a picture of herself and boyfriend, Alphonso Davies on vacation recently with racist comments greeting the photo.
Canadian international and Bayern Munich defender, Davies was born in Ghana to Liberian parents. He moved to Canada with his parents at the age of five after being granted asylum and on Wednesday, he became the first North American player to make it to the FIFA 11.
While Davies’ career has been stellar in the last one year, he has often been a subject of racist chants and slurs. On Instagram, the ugly, old problem repeated itself. Bayern Munich, one of the biggest sporting institutions in the world have said there is no place for racism in their world.
Club President, Herbert Hainer condemned the racist remarks against Davies and said they are standing fully behind their player.
“Our club stands for cosmopolitanism,” Hainer told German publication Bild. “The racist hostility will not be tolerated by us in any way.
“We founded the ‘Red Against Racism’ initiative some time ago, which we practice very actively throughout the club in all sports and areas.
“Exclusion, discrimination, hatred and violence in every form have no place in our world.
“No matter where you come from – football offers us all a home. Football has the power to connect people. As FC Bayern we always want to contribute to this.”
Davies’ girlfriend, Huitema also condemned the action. “We will never see good in the world if all we see is the colour of each other’s skin. We are all part of one race, the human race”, she said.
