Beitbridge Border Traffic Congestion Cleared – ZIMRA

Following the reorganisation of traffic flow at Beitbridge through additional entry routes,
the movement of traffic at the Beitbridge Border Post is now back to normal.

The busiest border crossing in southern Africa which has about 25,000 people passing every day experienced six weeks of delay due to necessary upgrade.

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) stated that the movement of traffic through Zimbabwe’s border with South Africa had been interrupted owing to the upgrade construction project being undertaken on the Zimbabwean side.

ZIMRA in a public notice advised all travellers, importers, exporters, transporters, clearing agents and the general public that following the publication of Public Notice Number 41 of 2021, the position communicated in the previous notice about traffic congestion has since regularized and traffic flows have returned to normal.

Stakeholders were accordingly advised and encouraged to continue engaging the authority through the various communication channels as the border upgrade construction project continues.”

The Beitbridge border point straddles South Africa and Zimbabwe and is an important access point for the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The crossing was closed to non-commercial traffic in January to stem the spread of the coronavirus.
