Belarus President Lukashenko Hosts Tinubu, Seeks Better Ties

Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, met with Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko in the capital, Minsk, on Wednesday. Both countries seek to partner in specialist training and the economy.

Mrs Tinubu’s spokesperson, Bukola Kukoyi, said Belarus wants to strengthen ties with Nigeria inka other areas, including Agriculture, Food processing, Industry, and Education. 

The President of Belarus expressed that the visit of the First Lady of Nigeria has bolstered his government’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Nigeria. He emphasized their interest in collaborating on specialist training as a key area of cooperation.

According to him: “We know your needs and we know the possibilities that you have. Let me underline that these possibilities are important and significant for us. We can render significant assistance to you, and you can reciprocate with us.

“We are willing to explore deeper collaboration in the area of education with your country.

“Please ask President Bola Tinubu for the visit of our Minister of Foreign Affairs to your country so we can develop these areas of collaboration further”. Lukashenko said.

In response, Mrs Tinubu expressed her gratitude to the Belarusian leader for generously offering full scholarships to 20 Nigerian students through her Renewed Hope Initiative and assured that Nigeria would also be reaching out further to Belarus to see how the desired collaboration between the two nations would be pursued.
