The Benue State Government has commenced the distribution of relief materials donated by the Nigerian Government to all 276 wards in the state.
The initiative is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ease the effects of the economic downturn on the populace.
Sir James Iorpuu, the Executive Secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency, said the distribution will be beneficial to vulnerable groups like widows, orphans, the elderly, schools, religious bodies, and the physically challenged in the state.
“The palliatives we are distributing today come from the Federal Government through NEMA. These vital food items are intended to reach the most vulnerable among us: widows, orphanage homes, the elderly (65 years and above), government schools, especially boarding schools, religious bodies, and the physically challenged across all our 276 local government council wards,” he said.
“These palliatives are a lifeline for our most vulnerable citizens and it is our collective responsibility to ensure they are distributed fairly and efficiently,” Iorpuu added.
The relief items include 17,940 bags of maize and 4,132 bags of garri. Each ward will receive 65 bags of maize and 15 bags of garri.
The distribution will occur over three days, with different zones receiving their share on specific days: Zone A on July 25, Zone B on July 26, and Zone C on July 27. Any ward that misses its turn can collect their supplies on July 28.
