The management of the Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Benue State, has announced the school’s closure according to an internal memo titled “Security Situation on Campus,” released on Wednesday and signed by the Registrar, Dr John David.
The university has confirmed that three students were kidnapped by unidentified armed individuals at approximately 8:00 pm on Tuesday in the area between Zamfara Hostel and Ring Road in North Core.
The university authorities condemned the incident and said that the government and security agencies had been notified of this unfortunate occurrence.
The management has decided to postpone the inaugural lecture set for Wednesday indefinitely and has instructed students to leave their hostels so that the authorities can address the security issues on campus.

Reports indicate that the students’ abduction in the early hours of Wednesday sparked protests, with students marching throughout the campus, demanding that the university administration work to rescue their fellow students.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the Benue State Command, Chief Superintendent of Police Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident.
“We received information that two students were taken by unidentified gunmen. An investigation is currently underway.” Anene said.
