There is an ongoing massive protest in Otukpo, Benue South Senatorial District, over rising insecurity and attacks by suspected herdsmen.
Otukpo, the headquarters of the Idoma people and home to seven Local Government Areas in Benue South, has been brought to a standstill as youths take to the streets, blocking all entry and exit routes. The town, a key gateway to Enugu in the east and Lafia in the north, has seen heavy traffic congestion due to the barricades.
Security operatives were spotted pleading with protesters to reopen the roads to ease movement.
Leading the demonstration, Comrade Mike Magaji, President of the Ochetoha K’Idoma Youths Wing Worldwide, condemned the ongoing attacks in Agatu, Ado, Okpokwu, Otukpo, and Ogbadigbo LGAs, which have led to numerous deaths and the destruction of property worth millions.
