Hours after Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, some Nigerians have taken to one of the largest social media platforms X, to demand the suspension of Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo after a viral document dragged his company into the scandal.

The Minister is alleged to have received an amount totaling N438.1 million From Beta Edu’s alleged fake N3billion Social Register Contract, through his company, the New Planet Project Limited.

An X user, #TonyeBarcanista called on the Interior Minister to defend himself or prepare to tender his resignation, as Nigerians will not “gree” for public officials guilty of corrupt acts.

He wrote:

“Honorable Minister Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, we have seen a document indicating that the sums of N279 million and N159 million  was paid to New Planet Projects Ltd, a Company that you have significant control, by the disgraced and suspended Humanitarian minister, Dr. Betta Edu.

“While we await further information on your role in the GVG scheme scandal, be prepared to tender your resignation letter as minister of interior should an indictment be established against you.

“In this 2024 and beyond, Nigerians will not ‘gree’ for any public officer that is found wanting.

“The unchallenged financial misbehavior associated with officers of Buhari administration will not be allowed to repeat itself,” Tonye wrote.

Another user, #n6oflife6 also wrote:

“Remember that TUNJI OJO IS ALSO PART OF THIS THEFT of Public Money. Pls Nigerians don’t fall for the Betta Edu suspension and forget that 2 heads are meant to Roll for this Crime. Tunji Ojo must also be Suspended IMMEDIATELY.”

News Central reports that following the N585 million scandal that recently rocked the Humanitarian Ministry, President Tinubu immediately suspended Dr. Betta Edu to give room for thorough investigations into the corruption allegations.

Tunji-Ojo was appointed Minister of Interior by President Bola Tinubu and was sworn in on August 21, 2023.

The former lawmaker representing Akoko north-east/north-west federal constituency resigned from the National Assembly to take on his new role as one of Tinubu’s ministers.
