Nigeria’s power grid has experienced another system failure, leading to a nationwide blackout.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) said the power outage was as a result of a system failure from the national grid. With the system failure, the Trans-Amadi Power plant recorded only 0.80 megawatts of electricity.
“Please be informed that the power outage being experienced is due to a system failure from the national grid at 3:10pm today, affecting the power supply to our franchise areas,” the AEDC said.
Relevant stakeholders in conjunction with the DisCo are working to stabilise the grid and restore power.
On February 4, the national electricity grid collapsed for the first time in 2024.The country suffered another nationwide blackout on March 28, 2024.
According to the Independent System Operator’s website, which is part of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), power generation dropped from 3,417.99 MW at 1 pm to 2,797.16 MW at 2 pm, further declining to 1,020.08 MW by 3 pm and eventually plummeting to 0.80 MW by 4 pm.
There are ongoing concerns about the reliability of the nation’s electricity infrastructure.
