Nigerian Celebrity cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, known as Bobrisky, has been confined to the male section of the Nigerian Correctional Service facility after openly acknowledging in court that he is biologically male.
Bobrisky received a six-month sentence without the option of bail from Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Lagos Division of the Federal High Court in Lagos for Naira abuse charges on Friday.
Speaking on the matter, a spokesperson for the correctional service in Lagos stated:
“Since he openly declared his gender as male in court, we are bound by that statement.”
Addressing concerns about Bobrisky’s safety while in custody, correctional officers assured that adequate measures have been put in place to shield him from potential abuse by fellow inmates.
“He need not fear any form of assault from other male inmates as our personnel will provide necessary protection,” the spokesperson affirmed.
Bobrisky’s court appearance stemmed from charges related to Naira Abuse and money laundering, to which he pleaded guilty to the Naira abuse charge during the proceedings last week Friday.
