Borno State‘s Gajiram police station was attacked by Boko Haram militants, resulting in the deaths of two police officers.
The terrorists engaged in gunfire with the police officers on duty at the station, critically injuring one more officer until the civilian joint task force, which is positioned close to the police station, helped to overwhelm and repel them.
At 11 p.m. on Wednesday, the Boko Haram militants launched their attack, a security source said.
The insider claimed that the attack did not affect any facilities or security equipment.
The attack did, however, occur at approximately 12:10 a.m. on Thursday, according to a police statement that verified it.
The Borno State Commissioner of Police, Yusufu Lawal, conducted an assessment tour of the attack site in Nganzai and found grenades, according to a statement signed by ASP Kenneth Daso, Public Relations Officer for the Borno State Police Command.
“The Nganzai Police Division was attacked by unidentified gunmen suspected of being Boko Haram terrorists on January 9, 2025, at around 12:10 a.m. The terrorists were repulsed by the brave officers on duty, and following a series of gunfights, the terrorists threw hand grenades that tragically fell on a shelter tent behind the division, killing two officers.
“Two hand grenades were found by EOD-CBRN Base 13 Maiduguri during the Commissioner of Police’s scene assessment, and the bodies of the deceased have been transported to State General Hospital Maiduguri.
“In addition to expressing sympathy to the families of the two officers who died, the Commissioner of Police praised the brave officers who remained on the scene to stop the assault.”
As normalcy has been restored, the police statement partially stated, “The Command remains dedicated and committed in ensuring safety and security for everyone and calls for calm.”
