West Africa’s terrorist organisation, Boko Haram, has reportedly killed no fewer than three people in an attack in Northern Cameroon.
The traditional chief and mayor of Mozogo commune, Mahamat Chetima Abba, said the insurgents struck early on Monday, killing three members of a self-defence group.
He added that the terrorists crossed the border from Nigeria, and attacked Kiliari in Nguetchewe.
Boko Haram has ramped up attacks in Cameroon’s Far North region in recent days.
On Saturday, attackers killed a school teacher in the village of Ouzal in Mayo Moskota.
Boko Haram started fighting in Nigeria in 2009 and has spread to neighbouring Cameroon, Chad and Niger.
At least 37,500 people have been killed and more than three million people have been displaced in the last decade, according to United Nations reports.
This most recent spate of attacks come days after Cameroon’s President Paul Biya told Cameroonians in his New Year Address that the actions of the militants have been significantly reduced by the country’s security forces.
