In Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, Boko Haram insurgents ambushed a convoy of trucks transporting supplies and passengers, killing five individuals and kidnapping seven women.
The incident occurred Thursday at around 2:30pm quite close to the Nigeria-Cameroon border town of Banki in the LGA on the security-escorted convoy of commuters and goods-transporting trucks.
A source commuting along the Maiduguri-Bama-Banki route, named Babagana Kaumi, confirmed to newsmen that: “The convoy of commuter and goods vehicles tan into an ambush near Banki.”
He continued: “One of the vehicles developed a fault, and when such happens all the soldiers concentrate their attention on the faulty vehicle until it is repaired before the journey continues.
“That’s what happened that day; as the soldiers concentrated their attention on a vehicle that developed fault, the insurgents attacked, killing two commuters, the driver of one of the vehicles and his two assistants abducted about seven women and set the convoy ablaze.”
Kaumi said “Of recent, the insurgents only attack such convoys, snatching money and every valuable, including any good pair of shoes from commuters, leaving them to continue the journey alive and unhurt; but last Thursday, they attacked with anger.”
Meanwhile, Boko Haram has vowed to recapture the territories recovered by Nigerian troops. Security analyst and a counter-insurgency expert on Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed this, yesterday, in a video shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.
The terrorists also threatened to attack the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), whom they referred to as “Yan Red Cross”, accusing them of joining forces with the military to attack them in their enclaves.
One of the armed terrorists said in Hausa: “We are here to announce loud and clear that we are fully back to reclaim all the territories we lost to infidels.
“For you, Red Cross, you are elated because they gave arms to you; let it be known to you that you cannot win against Islam. We depend on the power of Allah and by his might, we will conquer.”
