Book Haram terrorists have killed a Nigerian Army Colonel in an ambush on his convoy in Borno State.
Colonel D.C. Bako’s convoy was ambushed by militants on Sunday near Damboa, a few kilometres from Maiduguri, the main city in Borno state.
A statement by Colonel Ado Isa, Deputy Director Army Public Relations 7 Division, on Monday said he was evacuated to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
A military source told local media that six other soldiers died in the ambush.
The statement said the deceased was “one of our gallant and finest war heroes.”
The Army recalled that the senior officer “always led from the front.”
Bako died while leading a patrol to clear Boko Haram terrorists from Sabon Gari-Wajiroko axis near Damboa.
The colonel’s patrol team entered an ambush at about 10 a.m Sunday 20 September 2020. Under his able leadership, the troops reportedly cleared the ambush resulting to the killing of scores of terrorists and recovery of weapons and equipment.
Bako was wounded in action and immediately evacuated by the Air Task Force Operation LAFIYA DOLE to the 7 Division Hospital at Maimalari Cantonment.
The late senior officer was at the time of his death recovering from a successful operation at the hospital, in good spirit and also said his prayers in the early hours of this morning before his sad passing at the hospital.
The statement by the Nigerian Army prayed that God grant him and other fallen officers and soldiers eternal rest.
