Boy, 16, Murders Brother Over Land Dispute In Kenya

A Kenyan teenager has confessed to killing his 14-year-old brother following a land dispute in Nyamira.

According to reports, the 16-year-old attacked the deceased with a hoe after they disagreed on Friday about the use of the land.

Police said the suspect, a Standard Eight pupil at a local primary school, hit the deceased on the back of his head using a hand hoe, killing him instantly.

According to County Commander of Police, Catherine Mugwe, the suspect wanted the same piece of land where his younger brother had planted kales for nappier grass.

“He proceeded to plant the grass within the vegetables, something which did not please the brother leading to a heated exchange,” Mugwe said.

After killing him, the boy buried the body secretly in a pit he had earlier dug to plant a banana sucker where it lay overnight.

He exhumed the body afterwards and abandoned it at the scene where the murder was committed instead..

He went home and reported the incident to their mother who raised alarm, attracting the attention of the villagers

The deceased was a standard six pupil at the same school as his brother.

According to Kebirigo Chief Robert Okioga, the two boys live with their sickly mother who doubles as the breadwinner after their father left home.

The juvenile is being held at Nyamira Police Station and according to Mugwe, police are piecing together the incidences and any obtainable evidence with a view of charging the youth before a court of law.

“Investigations are going on and for now, we are holding the mother and the suspected killer as we prepare to take them to court,” she said.
